Williamsburg - Brooklyn, NYC

Williamsburg - Brooklyn, NYC

I'm back from my trip to NYC, which included catching up with friends, meals at Momofuku Ssam Bar and Masa (!), and hanging out in Brooklyn. I also got some nice photos that I'll post over the next week.

One of the most common trends I saw was the super-short, voluminous dresses that dominate this season, worn bare-legged, as this girl does. The look is an interesting contrast between sweet and scandalous, and she pulls it off particularly well.

Weekend in NYC

I'm off for a long weekend in NYC to visit some friends. Back on Monday, hopefully with some good shots from the weekend to share.

By the way, I'll have a new project to announce next week...and I'll also try to have that 'Northwest Afternoon' interview posted somewhere soon. Until then, have a lovely weekend.

I like how subtly vintage her outfit looks - I think it's the squarish shape of her blouse with the high-waisted skirt that does it. And her purse and simple sandals finish it off perfectly.

Pike/Pine TV debut

Local readers might be interested to check out the TV talk show 'Northwest Afternoon' on KOMO (ABC/Channel 4) this coming Wednesday, 7/25, at 3pm. They invited me on for an interview last Friday, and we chatted about the blog and some of the photos I've taken. It was my first time on TV, and was a surprisingly easy, pleasant experience - it only took a half-hour to tape, and the folks there were really nice (despite several of them joking about how nervous they were getting dressed that morning). Many thanks to them for having me on.

Nordstrom Designer Preview

I got to attend the Nordstrom Designer Preview last Wednesday. The audience seemed to consist largely of Nordstrom's loyalest shoppers, which made for one of those surreally entertaining, 'I can't believe this is Seattle' scenes. And the preview itself was a medley runway show of the Collectors lines Nordstrom will carry for fall/winter. Marni, Marc Jacobs, and Prada were my favorites.

The Marc Jacobs segment was presented in the same simple, moody manner as the original runway show. An impressive bit of theater.

Pike Place Market - Downtown Seattle

Pike Place Market, Seattle

A little study in footwear: She's the first girl I've seen who's managed to pull off the cowboy-boots-in-summertime look, I think because the boots are the right color, and aren't too heavy-looking. And he's the first person wearing flip-flops I've photographed; it somehow works with how fitted but laidback his outfit is.

Fremont, Seattle

Fremont, Seattle

I'm not pleased with how I took this photo (it's a new lens that I'm still struggling to get the hang of with indoor lighting), but she was too good to not post. Her outfit is so quietly inventive - the dress over the jeans is an unexpectedly 'young' look, but her thin sweater makes it all very elegant, and I like that her shoes are a little flashy. She also has lovely posture, which always goes a long way. And what I liked best was her hair in subtle pigtails:

Seattle Times write-up

Pike/Pine was featured in a recent Associated Press article about fashion blogs, which ran in the Seattle Times last Sunday.

I like her balance between hippie and chic. The embroidered flowers on her dress are very sweet.

A funny, charming pair - like an Olsen twin with Kelly Wearstler. When I went to take their photo, they instinctively clasped hands like schoolgirls.

Neumos - Capitol Hill, Seattle

Neumos - Capitol Hill, Seattle

Happened to see Matt Berninger, the lead singer of the National, hanging out in front of Neumos this past Saturday. He was very nice about letting me photograph him, although I didn't let on that I knew who he was; I just said it was for my fashion blog. (It seems like a more sincere compliment that way, I think, and has worked before.) And when my friend commended his daring-do for chugging a beer outside, he confessed that it was, alas, merely a root beer:
