Seattle Times weekly photo

Impulse Boutique - Fremont, Seattle

(This would normally click through to my Times gallery but the photo hasn't been posted online yet.) This is Suzy Ummel at Impulse Boutique in Fremont. I like her bookish, slightly schoolgirl-ish look, and her vintage purse is a nice touch.

Impulse is the best clothing store in Seattle and your subject looks great!

huh...
Her shoes seem so sloppy to me - almost like slippers. Can anyone explain to me why they work?

Hi anon. - They're actually Indian-style moccassins. They'd normally be a little too trendy for my taste, but given that the rest of her outfit is quite traditional (I could see her wearing it every year), I think they work. She clearly has her own sense of style...

She's wearing Minnetonkas, which I adore, specifically for the reason Jasmine hinted at. They are a shoe traditionally worn by old-school prepsters and take a otherwise classically preppy outfit and inject a bit of trendiness.

Love those socks too!

She looks great! Suzy was an apartment-mate of mine in college for a short time and I can attest that she was just as stylish then.

Oh, Impulse is one of my favorite never-go-to boutiques because I'd buy the whole place.

I'm not usually a big fan of moccasins either but I think it really works with how clean & crisp the rest of her outfit is.
